SOUND CLASH

In light of this year’s London Notting Hill Carnival, Alex FaKso presents Sound Clash — a photographic book looking at London’s dynamic carnival culture. Every year since 1965, the streets of West London have been filled with millions during the last weekend of August, in which sound systems are erected by various cohorts to battle out their own renditions of ska, reggae and dub. The list of imagery shot between 2009 and 2012 provide an in-depth look at the yearly phenomenon, and its reaction as part of British heritage and youth culture. Sound Clash captures one of Britain’s long-stranding subculture in 104 pages, offering new folds of insight to the world’s second largest carnival following Rio De Jeniro.
